Kai & Kōrero: Learning over lunch
VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai was born from the determination of children and young people in care who refused to let their voices go unheard.
In this Kai & Kōrero session, Tracie Shipton (CE) and Cameron McKay (National Care-Experienced Youth Participation Advisor) will share their presentation from the recent VOYCE conference, Kōkiri: The Future Speaks. They will reflect on the courageous journey that led to the establishment of Aotearoa’s independent advocacy organisation for tamariki and rangatahi with care experience.
Tracing the movement from grassroots youth activism to nationwide collaboration, Tracie and Cameron will share how young people’s lived experience, sector advocacy, philanthropic partnership and community leadership came together to create a powerful and enduring change. This session highlights the pivotal moments, challenges, and breakthroughs that shaped VOYCE’s formation, as well as the kaupapa that continues to guide the organisation today.
They will share how genuine partnership with young people can transform systems, strengthen wellbeing, and ensure every tamaiti and rangatahi in care is truly heard.
The session will end with audience Q & A.
